Philadelphia Slick

Philadelphia Slick's Biography

For over six years Philadelphia Slick has thrilled crowds with danceable beats and infectious lyricism. Hot on the heels of their Everything’s Game EP release and tour, national cable television placements, and an MTV online feature, the live hip hop giant out of The City of Brother Love is gearing up for an exciting second half of 2011.

Much more than a jam band, much more than two turntables and a mic, Philly Slick keeps the crowd moving with live horns (think Ghostface), addictive rhythms (RJD2), and plenty of familiar covers to dot their original compositions. Slick features emcee Noesis who refuses to rest on his laurels as an amazing lyricist – he’s recently busted out his Saxophone on stage as well. Drummer El Smooth (an accomplished hip hop producer) often sings melody, backup, and lead vocal lines all while holding down the rhythm.

Formed in 2005, Philly Slick has released three projects, including 2010’s Everything’s Game EP featuring the lead single ‘Everything Must Go.’ The music video for ‘Everything Must Go’ has been featured across the country on Fuse TV onDemand. In addition, the group was recently interviewed and highlighted by MTV and Ourstage’s Needle in the Haystack, a week-long expose with interviews and free downloads. Slick has opened for national acts like Questlove of the Roots, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and has had their song ‘Ignition’ from their second album, Oil, picked up by HGTV for their program Urban Oasis.

Slick frequently tours the East Coast and Midwest, with regular stops in Pittsburgh PA, Columbus OH, Rochester NY, Brooklyn NYC, and Burlington VT. The group hosted a monthly event in West Philadelphia called Rap TV that featured re-interpretations of popular artists’ music like Wu Tang, The Doors, and Dr. Dre. This past Thanksgiving, the band put together and hosted a benefit for The Barrio Planta Project, a grassroots education organization in Nicaragua.

Philadelphia Slick is currently writing a new LP for release at the onset of 2012.

We all know emcees that get up and spit and that’s it. I’m not one of them. Aside from rapping for over 13 years, I’ve been making beats for a decade and have been the founder, manager, and publicist for Philly Slick since we started this here thing back in 2005/2006.

Recently, I’ve been playing saxophone (something I’ve done off and on throughout my entire life) you can hear me break it out at most Slick shows nowadays. I also designed and developed this web site, which is what I do when I’m not making music. Feel free to hit me up at noesis@philadelphiaslick.com.
